What are lash extensions?

Eyelash Extensions is a practice that enhances the length, thickness and fullness to natural eyelashes. The extensions may consist of silk, mink, or synthetic hair. Methods of applying the extensions include full strips, clusters, and individual, one-by-one extensions.

At Dash of Lash we only apply individual (one-to-one) extensions.  That means only 1 lash extension is applied to 1 natural lash.

We never use strips or clusters!!!!

We only use the highest quality lashes and lash adhesives. At Dash of Lash you are paying for quality.

Beware of cheap/discounted lash extension deals. You may be paying for "cluster" lashes, strips, or pre-made "fan" lashes. Those types of lashes are not made for long time use and can actually damage your lash growth cycle.

With individual lash extensions, your natural lashes will not be harmed.

Is it safe?

Currently the FDA is not regulating eyelash extensions because the eyelash extensions are applied to the natural eyelash hairs and do not touch the skin. The application process is pain-free and relaxing that most clients fall asleep during the procedure.

However, improper application by an unqualified eyelash technician can cause damage to your natural lashes. We recommend only using a Certified Eyelash Extension Specialist. Make sure to do your homework and only get your lashes done by a lisenced facial specialist who has gone through proper lash training/certification.

After all it is your eyes, you deserve the best!

How long do lash extensions last?

The natural growth cycle of your lashes is 6-8 weeks. With proper after care lash extensions should last about 4-6 weeks with reccomended 2-3 week refills.

Caution:

Wetting lashes less than 24hrs after your lash appointment, changes in hormone levels, increased stress, seasonal allergies, crying, prescription medications, excessive rubbing of eyes, washing face and lashes with cleansers containing glycol and/or oil, rubbing face with towel or washcloth and sleeping on your face may decrease the life of your lash extensions.

Do lash extensions make my own lashes fall out?

No, absolutely not!  This is a complete myth.

At Dash of Lash many of our clients regularly refill their lash extensions and experience no breakage.

It is extremely important to have your lash extensions applied by a qualified lash stylist who only uses quality products.  The eyelash has a cycle that is constantly being replaced just like the hair on your head.  That is why you always found fallen lashes on your face. (And yes you can still make a wish on your fallen lashes)

How long is the lash application process?

The application process for a full set of lash extensions takes about 2 hrs (2.5 to 3 hours for volume/3D lashes).

You will lay comfortably on a facial table with your eyes closed.

Your lash stylist will cleanse and prime your lashes ( in order to make sure that your lashes are completely clean of any eye makeup, debris and proteins). Then, You will have a gel pad applied to the under eye area to cover your lower lashes.

Once the gell pad is comfortably applied, the lash application will begin.

The extensions will be applied to each individual eyelash using two lash tweezers. One tweezer will seperate the lashes in order to isolate one single lash, then other tweezer grabs a single lash  ( or more than one lash if doing volume) and slightly dip it in the lash adhesive. The lash extension is then placed on top of the isolated lash. This continues for 2 hours. ( most people take a nap so the time goes by pretty fast)

At the end of the lash application a lash sealer is applied to the lashes, to help the adhesive cure faster.  A nano mister can also be used at this time. This allows you to open your eyes faster than if a sealer or mister was not used at the end of the lash application. The sealer eliminates the fumes from the adhesive from irritating your eyes.  ( Tip: the sealer we use also contains biotin which keeps the lashes strong and healthy)

Next, You will feel a small fan air drying your lashes and a clean mascara wand brushing through your lashes.  Once the fan is turned off you will be instructed to slowly open your eyes, and then your stylist will hand you a mirror and you will be able to admire your brand new lashes!

What do I need to do (or bring) to my lash appointment?

Dash of Lash reccomends:

-Do not wear any eye makeup to your lash appointment! ( the longer it takes us to clean your makeup/mascara off  your lashes the less time we have to apply lashes)

-Be prepared to not be able to wash your hair for 24/48 hours. ( most clients wash/style their hair right before their lash appointment.)

- Go to the gym before NOT AFTER your lash appointment! We reccomend waiting 48 hours before wetting your lashes. ( wetting them before 48 hours could cause the glue to reactivate and clump the lashes together or fall off your lashes faster)

- Bring headphones for your phone or mp3 player ( some clients like to listen to their own music, listen to a movie, etc)

Why can't I open my eyes during my lash appointment?

Lash extension adhesive is safe but can have strong fumes that irritate sensitive eyes.

Opening your eyes during your lash appointment will cause you to experience a burning sensation (similar to when you swim in a pool with a large amount of chlorine.) This may also cause your eye to tear up. A result of this is burning is eye redness after your lash appointment up to 3 days after.

If redness doesn't go away within 3 days please see an eye doctor.

What do I need to know after my lash appointment?

  • Do not get lashes wet for 24-48 hours. Light mist is fine

  • Avoid hot steam or sauna

  • Avoid running water directly on your lashes

  • Do not rub your eyes

  • Only use water based mascara (optional)

  • If applying mascara do so from middle to tip, avoid root area

  • Use water based eye makeup remover

  • Do not perm your lashes

  • Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler

  • Do not pull on your lashes (this may cause your natural lashes to come out prematurely)

  • To extend the life of your lashes, come in for a touchup every 2-3 weeks

  • Enjoy your new look!

What should I do if I lose lashes?

You can get a "fill" or touch up every 2-3 weeks to replace any fallen lashes and to fix any lashes that have grown out too much. If you wait too long to get a refill too many eyelash extensions will have fallen out and you will require a full set.

Can I wet my lashes?

Please wait 24 hours after your lash appointment to wet/wash your lashes. You can wash your face and lashes, go swimming, cry or sing in the rain!

We ask that you avoid your lashes coming into contact with steam and saunas for 48 hours after your lash appointment.

When washing your face use an oil free makeup remover or facial cleanser. Avoid getting these in your eye unless specifically labeled as lash cleanser. Use a wash cloth to carefully remove the cleanser from your face avoiding the lash/eye area.

How do I clean my lashes?

Use a Lash cleanser to clean your lashes 2X day. First thing in the morning and again at night before bed. Keep your lashes clean in order to prevent blepharitis and other eye infections. Cleaning your lash extensions will make your lash extensions last longer and keep your lashes healthy.

Step 1- Wash your hands

Step 2- Pump a drop or two of lash cleanser onto a clean (soft) eyeshadow brush ( or your fingers if you are gentle)

Step 3- Close one eye and gently cleanse your lash with the eyeshadow brush using downward strokes  ( from lash root down to lash tip)

Step 4- Rinse cleanser completely using saline solution ( contact lens solution - any brand will work) Place a clean wash cloth on your cheek ( to catch liquid fallout)

Step 5- let lashes air dry

Step 6- use a clean mascara brush to brush lashes. ( Be careful not to over brush your lashes as they can pull your extensions out!)

Do I need a sealer ?

We highly reccomend that all our clients use our lash sealer every 3 days. We use a lash sealer to seal the lash glue at the end of your lash appointment in order to "cure" or seal the lash adhesive. This prevents the glue from staying wet and fumes iritating your eye at the end of your appointment. But we also like the sealer because if used every 3 days, it prolongs the life of the lash extensions as well as deposits vitamins to help keep lashes healthy and strong.

Many of our clients experience significant lash growth and improved lash retention once they begin using the lash sealer.

Can I wear Mascara?

Mascara is not reccomended. It will lessen the life of your extensions. If you do apply mascara, it must not be waterproof or oil based. You must use a water based mascara. There are special mascaras that are safe for your lash extensions.  If you wear mascara, you can only apply it to the tips of the lashes, applying it close to the roots will weaken the lash glue and may cause you to rip out your lashes.

Can I curl my lashes?

Mechanical lash curlers are not reccomended, they will damage the extensions and possibly your natural lashes. If you need to curl your lashes, use a heated lash curler.
